One of the most popular types of orthodontic braces are fixed braces whose main parts are brackets (the items glued on to your teeth) and the archwire which joints them together and actively drives changes in teeth alignment. The type of braces is selected for each Patient individually, depending on the specific needs.
Effects of treatment with fixed braces
The initial effects of treatment with fixed braces can be seen early on – usually just after several weeks. However, due to the complexity of the process of orthodontic treatment, it can last several years to complete.
Removable braces are used mainly in Patients with mixed dentition (with both milk and permanent teeth)
and in the process of intensive growth. Although you can wear and remove them on your own, you should wear them as long as possible during the day (at least 12-16 hours per day).
Due to specific features of removable braces, you have to wait for their effect relatively long time. Usually, such treatment ends with full development of permanent dentition. Then, it’s time to look at Patient’s teeth in terms of further need for orthodontic treatment.
They provide an alternative, and sometimes even the only solution during orthodontic treatment of our patients. The treatment is based on clear aligners worn almost round the clock. To work effectively, special projections (made of a composite material matching the colour of the tooth) need to be glued to your teeth.
Like for fixed braces, it doesn’t take long for the effect to show up – the expected teeth displacements can be seen usually in several weeks’ time. Orthodontic treatment using aligners/splints is usually shorter than with traditional fixed braces.
A splint is constructed after broad and deep diagnosis based on dentist’s interview with the Patient and/or their caregiver, making photographs (of both the teeth and the face), scan of Patient’s dentition, radiographic diagnostics (which increasingly often involves CT scans).
